Commonwealth Government employees and contractors with a .gov.au email address can register as a Full Access Member. Full Access Members have access to all available features.
State government employees can register as a State Owner or State Guest. State owners have access to all available features. State Guests can only access features in the communities they are invited to.
External stakeholders can register as a Guest (free) or Partner (paid). Guests must be invited by a Full Access Member. Guests can only access features and people in the communities they are invited to. Partners have enhanced functionality, including creating and managing their own communities. This process is for Australian Public Service (APS) and contractors with a .gov.au email address only. Before you start – make sure you have access to your work email and your mobile device. Registration takes about 5-10 minutes and must be completed in one go (do not abandon it midway through or you may not be able to access the system).
A confirmation email will be sent to you. If you don’t receive the email, check your junk, or spam folders. In the confirmation email, select Confirm email address.
Step 2: Set up your account.
Read and accept the terms and conditions. Select, Next.
Enter your details.
Enter and confirm your Password.
Select Review.
If the information is correct tick the box ‘I acknowledge the details are correct’ and click create account.
Step 3: Log in.
The ’We’ve created your GovTEAMS Account’ screen will display. Select Go!
Choose an option:
If this is your first Microsoft account, please sign in using your new username – firstname.lastname@govteams.gov.au and enter the password you used to create your account.
If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, select Use another account and then sign in using your new username –firstname.lastname@govteams.gov.auand enter the password you used to create your account.
A ‘More information required’ screen will show, select Next.
Step 4: Setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
To set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) you’ll need a mobile/landline phone or the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device. You will be asked to download the Microsoft Authenticator app. If you don't want to download the app, select ‘I want to use a different method’. Other options include text message (SMS) or phone call (landline or mobile).

GovTEAMS Partner memberships are for anyone working with the Australian Public Service who require greater autonomy and flexibility when using GovTEAMS.
Partner memberships may be suitable for people who have an existing guest membership in GovTEAMS. To be eligible, Partners will need to have either a current contract, or an ongoing business relationship with government. This will be verified during the application process.
GovTEAMS will review the form and make sure it meets eligibility requirements.
If approved, GovTEAMS will arrange the service agreement and payment.
Once finalised, you will receive an invitation email. Select Join GovTEAMS OFFICIAL.
Step 2: Set Up your Account
The Getting Started screen will display. Select Next.
Read and accept the Terms and Conditions. Select Next.
Enter your details and select Review.
Check your details, and if correct tick the ‘I acknowledge the details are correct’ checkbox. Select Create account.
A confirmation message will be displayed showing you your GovTEAMS username. You will also be sent an email with your account details.

Guest accounts are suitable for external stakeholders working with government who require limited access.
To create a Guest account, you need to be invited to a GovTEAMS community by a Full Access Member.
Step 1: GovTEAMS Invitation
A GovTEAMS community owner needs to invite you to join their community. Once invited, you will receive an invitation email.
Open the invitation email and select the Join GovTEAMS button to start the registration process.
Step 2: Set up your account
The Getting Started screen will display. Select Next.
Read and accept the Terms and Conditions. Select Next.
Enter your details and select Review.
Check your details, and if correct tick the ‘I acknowledge the details are correct’ checkbox. Select Create account.
The ’We’ve created your GovTEAMS Account’ screen will display. Select Go!
Step 3: Sign in
Guest users sign in to GovTEAMS with their own work, school, or social email accounts. You will use your password for these accounts as your password for GovTEAMS.
Select Send Code
You will be sent an account verification code via email. Enter the code into the prompt. If you have not received the email, check your spam and junk folders.
Step 4: Multi-Factor Authentication
Review and accept the permissions.
A ‘more Information required’ screen will show. Select Next.

Some agencies want to review GovTEAMS registration requests for their staff prior to granting a license. If your account has a status of Pending License it means that it is awaiting an Organisation Administrator from your agency to allocate a licence. You will need to contact your Organisation Administrators for further information. You can see they are by selecting your name on your GovTEAMS Dashboard.
