How Do I – Reset my MFA

When might I need an MFA reset?

People often switch phones and lose access to the Microsoft Authenticator account which they have set up for GovTEAMS.

It's always best to have more than one MFA method set up, so that you don't lose access to your GovTEAMS account, but if this does happen then you will need an MFA reset.

This process is for Australian Public Service (APS) and contractors with a .gov.au email address only. Before you start – make sure you have access to your work email and your mobile device.

APS and other Full Access Members can now use our MFA reset self-service to regain access to their accounts faster.

Step 1:

  1. Go to the GovTEAMS MFA re-set request page
  2. Enter your GovTEAMS email address (first.last@govteams.gov.au)
  3. Press submit

Step 2:

  1. Check your email for the MFA reset code, it may take a few minutes to arrive

Step 3:

  1. Copy the Temporary Access Pass
  2. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
  3. Follow the prompts and enter your GovTEAMS email (first.last@govteams.gov.au)
  4. Enter the Temporary Access Pass

Step 4:

  1. Click 'add a sign-in method' and follow the prompts
  2. While you're here, consider adding a second sign-in method so that you don't lose access again

You can now access GovTEAMS as you normally would, either go to the dashboard or the Teams app and sign-in using your new authentication method.
