How Do I - Register for GovTEAMS PROTECTED

Who can use this feature?

  • Australian Public Service (APS) and contractors with a .gov.au email address can register as Full Access Member. Full Access Members have access to all available features.
  • External stakeholders can register as an External Member. External Members must be invited by a Full Access Member.

This process is for Australian Public Service (APS) and contractors with a  .gov.au email address only. You must have an active Baseline security Clearance (or an agreement/arrangement in line with the PSPF and acceptable to the Department of Finance).

Before you start – make sure you have access to your work email and your mobile device. 

Step 1: Apply for a GovTEAMS PROTECTED membership

  1. Go to https://users-protected.govteams.gov.au/registration
  2. Enter your work email address.
  3. Click I’m not a robot.
  4. Submit.
  5. A confirmation email will be sent to you. If you don’t receive the email, check your junk or spam folders. In the confirmation email, select Confirm email address.
  6. Enter your name and date of birth in the form. We use these details to check your security clearance through AGSVA. If the information is incorrect, we will not be able to process your application.
  7. Select Create Account.

GovTEAMS support will review and check that you have (at minimum) an active baseline clearance to access the system (or an agreement/arrangement in line with the PSPF and acceptable to the Department of Finance. This may take up to 5 business days to action.

Step 2: Set up your account

  1. You will receive an email once we have confirmed your security clearance. Open the email and  select Continue your registration.
  2. Read and accept the terms and conditions. Select, Next.
  3. Enter your details.
  4. Enter and confirm your Password.
  5. Select Review.
  6. If the information is correct tick the box ‘I acknowledge the details are correct’ and click create account.
  7. A confirmation message will be displayed showing you your GovTEAMS PROTECTED username. You will also be sent an email with your account details. Select Go to access your GovTEAMS PROTECTED Dashboard. Enter your GovTEAMS PROTECTED username (ending in @protected.govteams.gov.au) and password.

Step 3: Log in

  1. You should now be taken to the GovTEAMS PROTECTED sign on page. If not, please visit https://users-protected.govteams.gov.au/.
  2. Choose an option:
    • If this is your first Microsoft account, please sign in using your new username –firstname.lastname@protected.govteams.gov.au and enter the password you used to create your account.
    • If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, select Use another account and then sign in using your new username – firstname.lastname@protected.govteams.gov.au and enter the password you used to create your account.
  3. A ‘More information required’ screen will show, select Next.

Step 4: Setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

To complete your registration, you need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). You’ll need a mobile/landline phone or the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device.

You will be asked to download the Microsoft Authenticator app. If you don't want to download the app, select ‘I want to use a different method’. Other options include text message (SMS) or phone call (landline or mobile).

This process is for external stakeholders working with the Australian Government. You must have an active Baseline security Clearance (or an agreement/arrangement in line with the PSPF and acceptable to the Department of Finance).

To create an external account, you need to be invited to a GovTEAMS PROTECTED community by a Full Access Member.

 

Step 1: GovTEAMS Invitation

A Full Access Member, who must be a community owner, needs to invite you to join their community. Once invited, you will receive an invitation email.

  1. Open the invitation email and select the Join GovTEAMS PROTECTED button to start the registration process.
  2. Enter your name and date of birth. We use these details to check your security clearance through AGSVA. If the information is incorrect, we will not be able to process your application.
  3. Click Create Account.
     

Step 2: Set up your account

  1. You will receive an email once we have confirmed your security clearance. Open the email and select Continue your registration.
  2. Read and accept the terms and conditions. Select, Next.
  3. Enter your details.
  4. Enter and confirm your Password.
  5. Select Review.
